For tantrikas / vajrayana students who have received the pointing-out instructions on the nature of mind.
Khenpo Gangshar Wangpo was a renowned scholar and mahasiddha from Shechen Monastery in Tibet. In 1956, he came to Surmang to teach the Vidyadhara Trungpa Rinpoche and also to teach at the new seminary there. During that time, he became very ill and appeared to have died. Amazingly, he returned to life and his personality changed dramatically. Once a respected scholar and model of a proper monastic, he began to manifest as a crazy-wisdom guru, teaching much more publicly and sometimes acting outrageously in order to push his students to realization during the tumult of the changing times. He was later imprisoned by the Chinese army and died in captivity in 1961.
Changling Rinpoche has visited and taught in Halifax and Dorje Denma Ling four times.
He was recognized by His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Penor Rinpoche as the principal tülku of Changchub Ling Nyingma monastery in Central Tibet. He is a lineage holder of the Rechung Kagyü, which is based on the transmission of Milarepa’s disciple Rechungpa. At the age of twelve he entered the Shechen shedra and completed his studies at the age of twenty-one. He has continued to teach at the shedra and is in charge of teaching monastics the ritual tradition and ceremonies of the Shechen lineage.
Changling Rinpoche teaches in English, and will give an audience for tantrikas and sadhakas while he is here.
Transcripts of Rinpoche’s previous teachings on Khenpo Gangshar from 2008, 2009, and 2010 at DDL are available here.
